Top 10 Health Blogs to follow in 2020.

Welcome to my top 10 blogs for the upcoming year. I have shopped around a bit, looking for the best blogs in many different categories. And It is surprising how many are abandoned. It’s almost like you can feel the spiders crawling on their pages, and the moistness of the residue that has been left behind in a moldy site.

With that being said, I was looking for 3 attributes while looking for these blogs:
1. Is this still pumping out information?
2. Can I learn anything? Or am I bombarded with so many ads, I have to leave?
3. Is the content they are producing relevant/ is it worth my time?

The answer was ‘yes to all’. So, if I missed something, or you want to add to the list, please keep it going! Add your input at the bottom, in the comments section, and let other people take the spotlight! And I want to apologize for those that did not make the list. (again, please comment your recommendation in the comments)!

**I also wanted to point out a few that have great content, but really a bit too “over populated” for this list: Men’s Fitness, Shape, Women’s Health, Men’s Health, Dr. Oz, The Doctors TV Show, Amazon, Mayo Clinic, Webmd, GNC, Optimun Nutrition, and more…
I wanted to shine light on those that we may not have all heard before. **

BEST BLOG FOR: GAMERS

I love love love this concept! Has anyone not seen South Park: Season 10 episode 8 Make Love, Not Warcraft? There is finally a blog/ program that shines light on the gaming community. Why? Well, If you would take a look at the picture, maybe you will see a HUGE problem (gamers vs. fitness) (no, I am not saying all gamers will look like this) But the majority that game, dont have motivation to get up and go!. My husband is a great example. He was sitting home, gaming for the longest time. (still does!) and its a very “food-to-mouth” type of habit that gets picked up so easily. Anyways, onto who Nerd Fitness truly is:

Nerd Fitness Camp

Alright, So I may be a bit bias, because I am a HUGE nerd! But this is something just about anyone who has ever played video games, watched Star Wars, or Super Hero movies, or even TV shows. So, we all can relate to this blog some way or another!

Founded by Steve Kamb in 2009, made up of 25 nerdy fitness gurus, and today have over 50,000 customers.

Yes, you can fork over money, which is the only set-back, that I can see. (although they have some free content, advice and ‘how-to’s’, with a very community, family feel to it. To join, it is $150 (as of 9/19) and they are willing to work with you, on a payment plan. And they do have a money back guarantee, which is fairly comforting.

They incorporate very nerdy things, such as “leveling up your character, which would be yourself and how many workouts you have done, foods you eat and so forth.

So, my final thoughts on Nerd Fitness:
I have not personally done this program. Nor am I associated with anyone doing this program. But, I would definitely recommend them. They have the community feel that a lot of younger generation is looking for. And not this “go to the gym, workout, and eat” structure. Rather, “I get you, and I know its hard, but we nerds can conquer anything” lingo. This just seems like a lot of hard-working nerds that want to help each other out. So, if you are a gamer, I would totally say, Go for it!

BEST BLOG FOR: SPECIFIC WORKOUT

Created by Cassey Ho. She is a pilates Instructor, and has released a DVD for Pilates. POP PILATES: Flat Abs Fast She has also created a book : Cassey Ho’s Hot Body Year-Round: The POP Pilates Plan to Get Slim, Eat Clean, and Live Happy Through Every Season

I chose this blog because her website is very easy to navigate. It also has so many different programs. Not only are these free, but she will go into great detail in her videos to describe how to do each workout and really interact with the viewers. She also has plenty of recipes by the category, so It is super easy to find what you are looking for! She is also a sensational hit on You tube.

Cassey Hos Pilates for Blogilates

My favorite part though, is she implements challenges. She will walk you through each challenge and actually do the work herself! I thought this was so inspirational since many fitness sites don’t do the FULL work with their clients. But here are a few of her challenges :

  • Splits,
  • Stretching,
  • 100 glutes workout challenge
  • 28 days to a summer body

So, my final thoughts on Blogilates:
If you are looking for pilates, or muscle specific tonning, this is really the place to go! With all sorts of muscle group activations, and recipes, lots of fun challenges and a quirky personality, you really won’t be bored here!

#3 DIOXYME

Rating: 5 out of 5.

BEST BLOG FOR: SUPPLEMENTS / MUSCLE CONDITIONING

Dioxyme Grass-fed Ultra Whey

If you are anything like me, you hate ads, you hate to go to a blog, and see it littered with ads everywhere. Pop-ups selling you on this product or that. Regardless, finding a blog for 2020, (many are outdated, with no new content being produced) was a difficult task. Until I found myself here. Dioxyme is founded by 3 men, and support growing athletes across the nation. They have a decent blog to ‘show the ropes’ of different products, vitamins and supplements, not only that they provide, but universally (such as CBD, Macronutrients, How to build and sustain muscle.) And I love that they shed light not just on mens muscle groups and workouts, but women as well (and I’m not talking China-style from WWF either.) But just general womens and Mens, because they know that women and men use and do different types of workouts to build or gain muscle. As well as lose muscle in the process.

For instance, Women’s guide to weight loss and Macros
really zones in on womens fitness, and what calorie deficit they should be at (proportion to their size) then they will show the weight training and how to balance after the initial weight loss.
They do the same for men as well.
So they are building you from the ground up.
And if you are looking for a focus type of energy, they do carry it. (I have tried it, and love it. ) Check it out here: BRAIN
If you would like to try it, I do have a personal discount from them that I would love to share with you, email me for questions regarding that!

My final thoughts on Dioxyme:
If you are serious about weight loss/ muscle gain, this is the place to go! ( but please feel free to shop around. compare your supplements before you buy!) Dioxyme hasn’t been around long enough to “make it big”, but I have a feeling they are going to have a breakthrough. I am a bit bias, and have tried their products, and I am going to say; they frikken work!. The weight-loss. The whey, especially the Brain. I can’t vouch for many of the others, but if this is your thing; check them out! And let me know if you do, I can give you a personal discount for their products.

#4 ACE FITNESS

Rating: 5 out of 5.

BEST BLOG FOR: HEALTH/ FITNESS COACHES

ACE FITNESS CERTIFICATION

Founded in 1985, by Scott Goudeseune and Alex Mirnezam, this business is booming! They have a team of 98. They just launched in China (summer 2019.) And they are growing rapidly. They give great advice and blogs to everyone. But their main focal points are certified trainers. They offer help, support and blog columns for many different coaches.
They also offer programs to get your certifications in these areas:
PERSONAL TRAINER
HEALTH COACH
MEDICAL EXERCISE SPECIALIST
GROUP FITNESS INSTRUCTOR

They also offer many online education classes for groups, individuals as well as corporations and businesses. So, if you are wanting to get any of these certifications, or more information, even expanding your mind, and continue the education and knowledge of the health and fitness field of study, this is a great place to start.
They have a very compassionate feel and aren’t trying to sell you, or boasting their sales pitch onto you.

My final thoughts on ACE FITNESS:
If you are a trainer, coach, or health professional in ANY field (schools, hospital, gyms, home, blog, social media, etc.) I think this is the place for you. It is full of information you can pass along to clients, as well as continue to educate yourself in the health industry. If you are looking to get into any one of these fields, I believe this is a great place to start–however, not the only place. But get informed, and shop around. I have done a lot of that for you, and have landed here quite often!

#5 Whole Mamas Club

Rating: 5 out of 5.

BEST BLOG FOR: MOMS

Difficult seasons- wholemamas

A group of 4 women came together to put this support blog for new moms. Not only for NEW moms, but even moms who have had ‘difficult seasons‘ pregnancies. (saddest thing in the world, and my heart goes out to anyone who has suffered from a loss of an infant, or has had a miscarriage, even infertility) There really isn’t too much support out there for these events. But these women, and this blog has created a light for anyone who has gone through this.
And this is not just about fitness, but emotional and mental, spiritual support you need to get through these times, and how to step back up, and collect yourself to get back on track, to ensure you can keep going with life.

Kids love food too!

This blog also provides meals, and inspiration to get kids eating healthy, aids in introducing new foods to them and how to interact positively with food and fitness with your young.

They also have tips for postpartum, breastfeeding and other different stages of having a baby!

Melissa Hartwig, CISSN
Stephanie Grewnke, MS,RD,PMH-C,CPT
Chelsea Long, Former English as secondary language teacher and yoga instructor
Dr. Elana Roumell, ND

These ladies make up the entire blog. (and you may have heard of Melissa Hartwig from whole30 nutrition books.) So, they incorporate alot of those recipes as well into their blog!

My final thoughts on Mamas club:
If you are a new mom, or are having trouble feeding your kids healthy food, I really think you should check this out! I know a few moms who got off on the wrong foot (started feeding their kids the processed- boxed and canned foods) and had a hard time getting their kids to really enjoy these whole food recipes. But I think having that support, and seeing that your’e not alone in this, is really helpful! Especially to new moms. And, to be honest, this is great for those dads too! The ones that cook, or are stay-at-home, or maybe they are those single dads trying to get by. Because that is hard as well, but I didn’t find many support blogs for that niche, sorry Dads! Overall, this is just a great support group for families of any size, and no matter the problem. You will feel at home on this blog!

#6 Everyday Power

Rating: 4 out of 5.

BEST BLOG FOR: MOTIVATION AND INSPIRATION

Everyday Power

Jeff Moore has created such a powerful blog. He has guests writing their inspiration and motivations to help bring others up. And that is powerful! He has powerment, and inspiration embedded in his mind and heart. He is not aggressive, nor super empathetic, but he gets his messages out in a way that lifts the soul.
Now, this is definitely not an easy thing to do. But he gets it done and so elegantly. From book lists, to how to start your life, quotes, and motivational songs, before you quit, for those struggling with giving up a drea, hope, or maybe even their life..

What I love most about this blog, is YOU can sign up to write a message. YOU can be that inspiration. YOU can be that motivation people look up to. Yes, Jeff also writes too, but he wants to bring the community together to create something beautiful.

My final thoughts on Everyday Power:
I believe this is for Every single person. there is never a full life where one person has it all together. Everyone struggles. And if you are one who is struggling right now, go find something worth holding on to in Everyday Power. And then, give back! I believe this is a community full of love, respect and compassion. And there are many different ways to write and give back. It also, gets your name out there too! Maybe you are a struggling musician (too cliche?) and you want the world to see through to your inner joy and happiness. If you have that to share with someone, you may just get back a lot more than you wanted!

#7 MyFitnessPal

Rating: 3 out of 5.

BEST BLOG FOR: KEEPING YOU ON TRACK

I was extremely hesitant about using My Fitness Pal on my top blog list because it is very mainstream and has been around since 2005. With that said, I could not let this one slide away.

The website kept pulling me back, their app is wonderful, as I was once a full time user, back in 2010 after I had my last child, to get me back on track. You will be counting calories, and workouts, In 2015, Under Armor bought them out. And there was a HUGE security breach in 2018 that affected data leakage of over 150 million clients!

So, I bet you are wondering why tf is Jamie putting this on the top 10.

The answer is simple really, they pump out great content, and they will keep you on track with whatever it is you want to to. It is all right there. I have looked and came up nearly empty handed in this category. Simply because other apps are missing a whole bunch of something. (either keeping track, easy tracking, calorie counts, macros, or simply just pumping out useful, relevant information).

My final thoughts on My Fitness Pal:
I really don’t promote that they had this Breach, nor did I want to put something so ‘popular’ on the list, but I really can’t turn my back on these guys. It’s like going to the dentist. You know you have to go. But are so reluctant. And finally you go, then say to yourself, wow that wasn’t so bad! But then, you don’t want to go again... I guess what I am saying, is that I would give them a 50/50. My Fitness Pal has truly been a huge support when I needed it. ( I haven’t used them in a while, I haven’t needed to really) but if you check them out, let me know what’s good. And in the comments, if you would recommend them or not!

#8 Fit Men Cook

Rating: 5 out of 5.

BEST BLOG FOR: MEN

kevin-curry-at-the-market

Public Figure Kevin Curry has an amazing page, mostly pertaining to men of all ages.
But his motto is, “built in the kitchen. Sculpted in the gym”.

He spends his time in the kitchen. Cooking delish dishes for all food types. Don’t let his website overwhelm you though, he has a lot of pictures, and a lot of recipes.

He speaks to all men saying that men, you can cook!

As we know, some of the biggest top rated chefs around the world are; Gordon Ramsey, Michel Bras, Wolfgang Puck, Emeril Lagasse, and many more. Meaning we already know that there are amazing male chefs around. However, the stereotype is, as we all know, the women stay home to cook while the men go off to work. (obviously we are coming upon the 21st century where this is no longer a “thing” anymore. But, we see where Kevin is going with this!

“Built in the kitchen. Sculpted in the gym”

– Kevin Curry

Getting men in the kitchen to cook some raw healthy, delicious food. Right? Well, I have to say, this guy has videos! And what more pertains to men than the visual stimulation of watching videos? And Kevin dives right in, hands-on, gets greasy and messy, and comes out with a damn near perfect masterpiece. He makes food that more or less men 🖤 such as steaks, and juicy burgers, but he does this as healthy as he can.

Convinced yet? Well, check out his book that he released December, 2018, called Fit Men Cook: 100+ Meal Prep Recipes for Men and Women―Always #HealthyAF, Never Boring

My final thoughts on Fit Men Cook:
I think Kevin has a HUGE personality that nearly anyone would enjoy. (unless you really don’t like that sort of thing). I think he is definitely a man’s man. And with that being said, I would recommend him to any guy out there, struggling or not, that wants to cook a bit healthier and eat better for himself (family or not). And I wouldn’t stop there. I also think women would enjoy his personality and food as well. Maybe not as much as other healthy chefs, but it’s definitely worth a shot!

#9 Andie Mitchell

Rating: 4 out of 5.

BEST BLOG FOR: WEIGHT LOSS

This was such a hard choice for me. On one hand, weight loss is really for everybody. But on the other hand, there isn’t too many weight loss blogs for men.
So, I went with Andie Mitchell and I’ll tell you why:

SHE IS RELATABLE

She has a family. But doesn’t let that drive her away from what she is good at: making food!
This blog has less to do with fitness, and more to do with in the kitchen, cooking your favorite foods, but in a sorta healthy way.
So, we follow her journey of losing 135lbs. But along the way, she has written 2 books, and continues to bring in content.

I have not tried her recipes. But looking at the ingredients, there are definitely some that I will be writing down.
I love her ‘jump to’ recipe guide at the top of all her recipe pages. As she gives a bit of information, nutritional value and then sets the recipe in place. But if you really want to, you can skip all of it, and just start cooking!

She goes through her journey of shedding the weight elegantly. She is not boasting the numbers of pounds, nor is she shoving content and ads down the viewers throats.

I believe weight loss is so much more than fitness, I believe there is an 80/20 rule. And this is as good for me as it gets. It is not a race, but rather a learned lifestyle and she makes this very clear! She is definitely a good source of motivation when you want to eat all your favorite foods, and cant seem to lose weight.

She has also written two books, one cook book, which has amazing recipes: Eating in the Middle: A Mostly Wholesome Cookbook and a biography of her life story. ( I have not read this, but it is definitely on my “to be read” list).: It was me all along: a memoir.

My final thoughts on Andie Mitchell:
I honestly don’t think this blog is for everyone. If you don’t have a family, hers may take up too much time. And if you are looking for a simple low down, you’re in the wrong place. But If you are wanting some motivation from someone who has ‘been there’ and cooks food, the ones that make us fat, while changing a few ‘key ingredients’ than, I would suggest you check this out. She has all her recipes divided into categories and subjects that make each very easy to find. She also has references and books out that may just be your true motivation to get started on your healthier journey. (or just keep you inspired and motivated to keep going on your own!)

#10 Delish Knowledge

Rating: 3 out of 5.

BEST BLOG FOR: PLANT-BASED DIETS

Spicy Vegan Pasta

Meet Alex:
Alex Caspero is a Registered Dietitian, Plant-Based Chef, and mom living in St. Louis, MO. Join her for whole-food, vegetarian recipes tossed with a dash of nutrition tips, fitness ideas, and travel guides.

She has some gorgeously made food, she posts at least once per week (2019) and really has a lot of love going into her cooking.

🖤 If this dish doesn’t look appetizing, I dunno what does! There is alot of elegance in her blog. (She also has a dietician program you can sign up for at a fairly steep price). Is it worth it? I haven’t tried, But personally, I don’t eat vegan or gluten free. And I am not truly looking, so I would not be one to answer if this is good or not, But you can check out her programs here.

My final thoughts on Delish Knowledge:
I think, if you are having trouble finding food for your vegitarian, vegan or gluten free lifestyle, this is definitely one to check out! But if you are just looking for recipes, it can’t hurt to look here. Some of the ingredients listed are a bit harder to come by. And in fact might have you shying away from this blog.

SHOUT OUT: BUDGET BYTES

Rating: 5 out of 5.

BEST BLOG FOR: BUDGET HEALTHY RECIPES

Budget Bytes Beth

I added this as a bonus blog because who doesn’t need a cheaper grocery bill? 🙋‍♀️
So, lots of recipe blogs, And this is the last one, I swear! This is in the “bonus” because it is not the ‘healthiest’ of all blogs that I would recommend. But This started with Beth, who just wanted to cut the grocery bill. And as we all know, it means to eat ramen noodles and frozen pizza right?

Well she turns those thoughts around and singles out the ingredients, she breaks it down, and shows how to eat a lot healthier (more food) on a slimmer wallet.

Budget Bytes also has a pretty nifty book out too! Which goes through a lot of her recipes online, and gives you tips and kitchen pointers for an easier set up. (you don’t need to run out and buy that kitchen aid mixer you’re only going to use once!) But how to use what you already have. (Say 1 kitchen knife for nearly everything) Who said cooking had to be expensive.
Anyways, check her book out here, if you are interested! Budget Bytes: Over 100 Easy, Delicious Recipes to Slash Your Grocery Bill in Half

My final thoughts on Budget Bytes:
This is for everyone! I don’t think healthy needs to always be expensive. Nor do I think you always need to eat healthy I believe in creating a balance. And not breaking the bank while doing so. I would have put this #1, But honestly, Like I said before, this isn’t the “healthiest” blog out there. So, take my word for it (Yes! Please do!!) and go check this out. try it out for a week or so, and see how your budget and stomach do!

So, there ya have it. Your guide to the top health blogs for the upcoming year 2020.
Who are you going to check out first?
Do you have any recommendations?
